Custom Homes: Unpacking and Organizing Strategies for a Great Fresh Start
You dreamed about custom homes for ages, you took the plunge and built our own home, and now, you’re ready to move in. Many of our clients who move into our custom homes view this as an opportunity for a fresh start, so if one of your goals is to maintain organization and balance in your new house, here are some tips for making this happen:
- Enjoy the process – It’s easy to get overwhelmed at the process of decorating and organizing a brand-new home. However, remember to enjoy this process and view it as an opportunity to do things no one has ever done before.
- Break old habits – Living in a new home means you can change the way you live for the better, and it starts with unpacking. Instead of haphazardly unpacking boxes and throwing things in piles, try to find spaces for things as they come out of the box. If you can’t find a place for something, don’t be afraid to get rid of it.
- Post-move purge—As you move into your custom home, you may realize you didn’t purge enough of your unwanted belongings beforehand. While your custom home may have plenty of room for unwanted items, make a point to consider whether you really use certain items to determine what should stay and what should go.
- It takes time – Keep in mind that organizing and decorating your custom home won’t happen all in one day. Give yourself time to plan out what you want and work towards that goal incrementally over time.
